Q & A with Bride Adrienne- Dreams Tulum

Bride: Adrienne

Groom: Pablo

Resort: Dreams Tulum

Agent: Alyssa

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

We decided on Dreams Tulum because of its location in the Riviera Maya; the fact that it is a luxury, all-inclusive hotel; has beautiful ambiance; English and Spanish languages are spoken; and their wedding staff has a lot of experience coordinating weddings.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?

The biggest highlight was how perfect and fun our wedding was.  After months of back and forth emails with the coordinator Landy and our travel agent Alyssa, our vision for our wedding was brought to life!  The biggest surprise for us was all of the added fees and costs at the venue.

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

Start planning early and plan a wedding that not only meets you and your fiancé’s needs, but the needs of your guests as well.

Was there anything that you would change looking back?

If I could change anything, I probably would have visited the venue prior to the wedding. I was riddled with nerves about the size of the reception hall and the actual look and feel of the chapel.  However, when we arrived to the venue a few days before the wedding, everything was absolutely perfect! I wish I wouldn’t have spent so much energy leading up to the big day worrying about things that ended up being even better than I could have imagined.

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

The size of our family is very large, and we did not want to make a hug expense on a party.

Having a destination wedding sounded like the best of both worlds. We would be able to get married by the beach and also take a trip to a new place as a family.

A destination wedding had been always pin on my Pinterest board but never really thought it would be an option.

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

I came across an add on Pinterest of Legacy Travel and decided to give them a call and see what they had to offer.

I had already made reservation at another resort in Cancun, prior to meeting with Lesley, however I was not able to have a one on one communication with the wedding coordinator so that was not a good thing.

Once we arrived and meet Lesley, she listened to all of our ideas and provided very detailed information about the resort, the amenities and everything surrounding. My fiancé and I loved everything and we automatically knew we wanted to work with Lesley.

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

The biggest difficulty was trying to express my ideas to the wedding coordinator. We both had different ideas of what would be the best way to do things.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?

Our biggest highlight was that our family loved the ceremony, the resort and the environment. None of us had ever attended a destination wedding or Cancun and the fact that we all went together was a blessing.

Another highlight was that we had a sand ceremony and we included my son. We brought the sand back home and my son absolutely loves it. Every day on the way out the door he stops and looks at it.

How well was the resort and you’re On Site Wedding Coordinator to work with?

The resort was amazing, since the minute we stepped in to when we walked in. The staff was so nice and welcoming in. We meet some great people and made new friends. Our guest and kids loved it. We felt save at all times.

The coordinator was very nice, but I felt like she had a lot on her plate and the one on one experience was not the best.

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

I would defiantly recommend Legacy Travel. I would recommend a different season. Our ceremony was on Aug,10 and that is hurricane season so more rain is expected causing the seaweed to come up to shore and the beach not to be as cleaned as one would of liked. I would also suggest that she plans it with plenty of time so any ideas and details could be worked out for the big day.

Was there anything that you would change looking back?

Yes, I would most certainly have changed the planning time frame, I would also change the season that we booked. It might be a little warmer but the beach would not have so much sea weed on the shore.

Q & A with bride Brittney: Secrets the Vine

Bride: Brittney
Groom: Spencer
Resort: Secrete The Vine
1. What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

We wanted our wedding to be carefree and fun, and what better way to achieve that than with a destination wedding with all of our closest family and friends!

2. What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

We liked that Secrets The Vine was so easy to get to from the airport. Also, the hotel had great reviews online and from friends who had been to other Secrets resorts.

3. What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

The chance of rain!

4. What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The highlight was getting to spend a whole week with our family and friends, it was honestly the best week of our lives.
The biggest surprise was the fireworks the wedding planner set up around the dance floor that went off at the end of our first dance!

5. How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?

Emailing back and forth can definitely involve some trust and patience. But once we actually got to the resort, I could not have asked for a better wedding coordinator.

6.  If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

I would say don’t worry about the details and don’t plan on spending a lot of one-on-one time with your groom. Enjoy every day as much as you can because it will all be over before you know it!

7. Was there anything that you would change looking back?
Honestly, no.

Our Very Own Terrah’s Beach Wedding in Tulum

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

Tulum, Mexico is one of my most favorite cities in the world.   It is rich in history and color with the most beautiful archaeological site – the Tulum ruins.   The beaches are powdery white and the waters are crystal clear blue.   It’s a refreshing, bohemian alternative to the busy areas of Cancun and Playa del Carmen.   Having been in the destination wedding industry for 10 plus years I have come to know a lot of talented people across the globe.   The management and wedding team at the Dreams Tulum resort have always been hard working and genuinely good people that never cease to amaze me.    While it was a tough decision we decided that the family friendly Dreams Tulum Resort was the best option for us.

What was your vision for your wedding?

The most important thing for me was to marry my best friend surrounded by those who love us.   The beautiful backdrop, dress, flowers and details were just the icing on top.   Zachary and I are fun-loving people so we wanted to reflect that in our wedding design.  We decided to go with a colorful and fun fiesta theme.   No shoes required with a lot of free time and music.

Describe the activities you and your guests enjoyed at your wedding destination.

The night before the wedding we had a fiesta on the beach to welcome everyone with string lights and lightup cocktail tables. Authentic Mexican food, open bar and fun music had everyone enjoying themselves.

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding and how did you overcome it?

I think with any wedding – the cost kept getting higher than we wanted so I would cut costs in the areas that were less important to me.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?

While we were all dancing and enjoying each others company on the beach – suddenly at least a HUNDRED baby turtles started hatching all around us! We each were able to carry one to the ocean. It was so incredibly magical and perfect. That was definitely the highlight of the weekend for me.

Bride’s attire?

My maid of honor and I found this lovely Maggie Sottero dress from Lulus Bridal Boutique.    Not too heavy or too light.    It worked out pretty well.

Groom’s attire?

Islander Importer

Bridesmaids attire?

I’m loving the mismatched bridesmaids trend right now so I gave my girls free range to choose their dress as long as it was long and on the blue/green color wheel.

Groomsmen attire?

How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?

Landy Cahum has become a dear friend of mine through the years and it was a true pleasure working with her on my big day.    She has such a demanding and busy job but she handles it all with such ease and grace.   She’s a blessing.

Did you have any entertainment?

We had a traditional mariachi band provided by the resort in between the ceremony and reception.   It gave it a fun and authentic Mexican vibe.   During the welcome beach party and the reception the resort DJ played my itunes playlists and kept everything on time.

Teo from the resort did a wonderful job on capturing every moment.   The videographer was included in our wedding package and we’re impressed with the quality and that he had it ready the morning after the wedding.

I debated on whether or not to do invitations since Legacy Travel provides amazing complimetary save the date brochures that had all the information on it but we decided to do send some out.   I had a very specific vision on how I wanted them to look and Milan at Paper Affair designed it perfectly.  She rocks.

What food was served at the reception?

A big variety – buffet style.   Since it was a larger group – I wanted to be sure and let everyone relax and eat when they wanted to eat.

Did you honeymoon at the resort afterward?

To have some privacy and relax we decided on the small, romantic Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita which wasn’t too far away.

Best memory of the wedding:

My husband tearing up during his vows… oh, and the baby turtles hatching during our reception.

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

No matter what happens – enjoy your experience. Every minute. You are marrying your lifetime companion in a beautiful place – relax and enjoy it. <3

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
The ease and cost of it! I’ve been to one before, and it was the most fun wedding I’ve ever been too. Cost was a big factor since we were paying for everything ourselves, and you can have a gorgeous wedding for way less the cost in another country than if we were to have it here in the states where hundreds more people would have come. Plus, we’re beach people, so having it on the beach just made sense 🙂

What made you decide on this resort?
I chose this resort because of the reputations I had read about, out of all AM Resorts,  Dreams Sands was the most cost efficient for our guests since it had just opened Fall of 2014. It was hard to find a bad review about any of the Dreams, Secrets, Zoetry, etc.

Who was your photographer, and if you had one, your videographer?
Our package included an hour long session with the Adventure photographers there at the resort. He was actually awesome, and I ended up buying all of the pictures because I couldn’t decide on just 50 (what our wedding package included)! We will get the video in a few weeks, and I am anxious to see it 🙂
What was the highlight of the experience?
The actual wedding ceremony, saying our vows on the beach in front of our closest friends and family, and then all the dancing at the reception! I recommend getting the light up dance floor…it was a hit!
Biggest surprise?
The MC at the wedding! I believe his name was Alfonso, and he was amazing. I had no idea we would have anyone like him MCing the wedding, but he had all the guests dancing, having fun, and the DJ played GREAT music!
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding, what would your advice be to her?
You HAVE to be laid back and TRUST the wedding planners at the resort know what they’re doing and will make everything beautiful! Luckily, that was easy for me, but some girls may be the opposite. You will not have much communication with them until the wedding, but just know…that’s ok!!! Also, bring whatever decor you want to save money. They will gladly set it all out how you want for you.
