Interview with the Bride: Haley’s Majestic Wedding

Bride: Haley

Groom: Michael

Resort: Majestic Mirage

Travel Advisor: Lesley

1.) What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

We chose to do a destination wedding because it allowed us to extend the celebration. Couples spend countless hours and money in preparation for just one day, which goes by so fast. Why not make it a week long celebration with all your family and friends in a beautiful place!

2.) what made you decide on the destination/ resort/ venue?

We looked through countless resorts in Punta Cana and in other countries. What helped us decide was from reviews as well as the pictures of the resorts. I also liked the fact that the Majestic mirage was the newest of the resort.

3.) What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

What was most difficult was in the beginning trying to figure out how many guest where going to actually be coming to the wedding. After finding out the actual number, decision making is much easier!

4.) What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
Besides the obvious my wedding was the highlight of my trip. Going on the excursion was very fun and a great time with friends and family. A pleasant surprise was how awesome the coffee shop was at the resort!!
5.) How well was the resort and your On site Wedding Coordinator to work with?
They where fantastic! Both of them where very attentive and on top of their jobs. They absolutely kept me on track during the week and especially for the wedding day.
6.) If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Don’t get to caught up on what Pinterest is telling you to do. Don’t ever assume things, don’t be afraid to ask questions!
7.) Was there anything that you would change looking back?
NO WAY! I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect week let alone a more perfect wedding!!

Bride: Tasha

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
I wanted a personal intimate wedding with just the two of us.
What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
It was all inclusive and the best value for what we were looking for. The fact that they specialized in weddings made it much easier on us.
What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding
Not being hands on. Though when we got there they did a great job showing us all of our options and actually changed some things. They were very easy to work with.
How well was the resort and your On site Wedding Coordinator to work with?
Super easy and she was so sweet. We felt like they treated us like family.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
To look for a place that specializes in weddings. I feel everything went off without a hitch because they did this several times every day.
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
Not a thing! It is a memory I will cherish forever.

Ashley and Randy’s Dream Wedding

Bride: Ashley
Groom: Randy
Resort: Dreams Sands Cancun
Agent: Lesley
What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
It was the most cost effective option that gave us a dream wedding and honeymoon all-in-one at a fraction of the traditional wedding price tag!
What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
The free wedding package, awesome and romantic honeymoon suite, it was kid friendly which was a must for us since my 11 year old son would be joining the celebration, and the beach! The white sand and clear blue water is why I picked the resort. It had the best beach of all the resorts I looked at… and I looked at A LOT!
What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
I planned my destination wedding in 2 months start to finish… I didn’t run into complications but I would say that what took me the longest was picking the destination and resort. We initially wanted a Jamaica wedding for a legal ceremony with out the blood tests, etc that Mexico requires. In the end we decided to get married in Cancun to save money. We did the symbolic wedding to avoid the mentioned requirements and our guests were non the wiser. We got married in the court house privately before we left. We had no issues at all.
What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
Highlights let’s see… the food was AMAZING! The staff was great (you MUST visit Armando the bar tender at the ocean side bar, he’s the best ever! He is so friendly and remembers every guest name! He makes your bar visit feel personal like you’ve been a regular for years.) The beach was perfect, so beautiful and clean! The rooms were the best I have EVER stayed in and my wedding was everything I wanted it to be. Ruby and her staff went above and beyond to make my wedding so nice, I can’t say that enough!! The night of our wedding the staff surprised us by having our room decorated with rose peddles, champagne, balloons, etc.
How well was the resort and your On site Wedding Coordinator to work with?
The Resort staff was very accommodating. Ruby our wedding coordinator was beyond amazing! She took care of everything and when I couldn’t afford a few add-ons to our package she surprised me the day of with the few extra touches at no additional charge. I really think Ruby and her staff went above and beyond to make my wedding stress free and wonderful. We also added the Amber photography package and the photographer was great! I get complements all the time that our wedding photos look like something that should be in an add magazine. We are both very happy with the way our wedding photos turned out!
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
I have recommended a destination wedding to everyone I know. I am very happy we skipped all the traditional wedding stress and family drama with our choice. We had 12 guest come to our wedding, so with the bride and groom our total wedding party was 14 people. I feel like we had the perfect turn out!… Especially with only 2 months notice!
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
The only thing I would have changed is that I would ask the wedding coordinator to do a walk through before hand. My son walked me down the isle and I wasn’t exactly sure where to walk, then once down in front the three of us (my husband, son and I) kind of felt lost as to where to stand. A walk through is the only thing that could have made my wedding more comfortable.
Lastly I want to speak praise over my travel agent Lesley. She was Amazing. She helped me plan travel arrangements for 14 people and was there at every turn to aid and assist. I never had to worry or stress about anything. She always made me feel like I was her top priority. I never felt like she was too busy for me or that she was hard to get ahold of. She also had very good advice when I asked for it and was never pushy or over barring. My husband and I both decided that she will be planning all of our family and anniversary trips from here on out! Thank you so much Lesley for all you help and support.

Xercerla & David’s Royal Wedding

Bride: Xercerla
Groom: David
Resort: Royalton Riviera Cancun
Agent: Lesley

We decided to have a destination wedding because it was much cheaper than a traditional wedding and wanted to have it in an exotic location.
We decided on the resort through the recommendation given to us by Lesley at Legacy Travel.
The biggest difficulty in setting up the wedding was organizing the guests and getting people to spend the money to travel to the location.
The highlight of our trip was the wedding itself. The resort outdid themselves in the location and setting of the wedding. Can’t say there were any big surprises, everything went as planned and lived up to our hopes and expectations.
The resort and onsite coordinator was wonderful. They catered to our every need and made sure we enjoyed our experience.
Our advice to anyone planning a destination wedding is to plan well in advance of the wedding. Get those invitations out at least a year in advance.
The only thing we would have changed is to make sure in advance that everybody is staying in the same area of the resort. We were separated from our guests by being placed in a different section of the resort, which made it difficult to hang out with them.

Q & A: Sandals Royal Bahamian with bride Hannah

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

Many of my married friends who had traditional weddings have confided in me that they wish they had just gotten married on the beach instead. I decided to skip the regret and just go for it! I was shocked and pleased when I realized how affordable it was to have a destination wedding (especially if you don’t have a lot of guests), and you can’t beat the stress free experience of tying the knot at an all inclusive resort.
What made you decide on the (original) destination/resort/venue?

My main criteria was that I wanted to be on a beautiful beach, and be at an all inclusive resort. Originally I chose Jamaica, but my now husband told me during the planning that, “Everyone gets married in Jamaica, let’s go somewhere more exotic.” We settled on Sandals Royal Bahamian (in the Bahamas), but in an ironic twist of fate we had to choose another resort about a month before the wedding due to unexpected maintenance. And guess where we ended up? Jamaica. We both loved every moment of our experience in Ocho Rios, and are happy to join the ranks of “everyone” who has gotten married there. I feel like we definitely ended up there for a reason!

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

It was a little disappointing that none of the guests we invited were able to make it out to the wedding, but we ended up really enjoyed the intimacy of a one on one ceremony and not having our family at the resort during our honeymoon. As I mentioned. the original resort we chose ended up closing for 2 months which happened to include our wedding date, so we had to scramble a little to change our plans and choose another resort. It was a very stressful bump in the road, but luckily we had new reservations and flight booked within a week.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The actual day of our wedding could not have possibly been more perfect. We had a brief but sweet ceremony barefoot in the sand, which I had been dreaming about for a long time. We met another lovely couple at the resort who attended and took some photos for us, and shared our cake and champagne toast later. Everywhere we went for the rest of the day, the staff and other resort visitors congratulated us. Then we spent the day on the beach and saw the most beautiful sunset of our entire lives.
The biggest surprise came when we went back to our room on our wedding night. Our butler really went all out to decorate our room, including a disco light, an entire cake, rose petals, and a card. I was so surprised that I accidentally locked myself out of the room running to get my husband to come and see it!

How well was the resort and your On site Wedding Coordinator to work with?

It felt a little awkward at first sitting in the wedding coordinator’s office, because we knew going in we were just going to have the bare bones minimum and not make any extra purchases. I was worried she might pressure us into buying something additional, but she ended up being absolutely understanding when we told her we wanted to keep it super basic since it was just the two of us with no guests. I feel like she put the same amount of effort into our wedding as she would for a bride with 100 guests. I really can’t thank her enough for her understanding and her help.

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

I would tell her to really embrace the stress free experience. Don’t worry about planning and just let the resort coordinator take care of it, all you have to do is show up. Make your wedding about you, not about your guests.

Was there anything that you would change looking back?
I might have set some more money aside to use for excursions and spa treatments, but I still think that my experience was absolutely perfect and I would not change a thing.
