What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

We both knew that we wanted something different. I, originally wanted to elope just the two of us. And then we decided we would just invite immediate family. Well, that quickly escalated to cousins, and nieces and nephews, so we decided to just have a wedding! A destination wedding was the best of both worlds. We had the intimacy we wanted, and the destination.

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

Hannah did an awesome job of giving us many options when it came to picking the location of the wedding. For us it was important
that the resort was small so we could see our guests everyday, as well as cost effective for all of those traveling. We ultimately ended
up choosing Dreams Riviera Cancun because it was:
A: On the smaller side
B: Only 30 minutes from the airport. This was important to use because we had a lot of guests that had never traveled to Mexico.
C: Amazing wedding reviews

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
The most difficult thing for me was waiting until 3 months prior to speak to our wedding coordinator at the resort.
By 3 month before the wedding, a theme is already planned, without any actual planning. Bridesmaids dresses
were picked, wedding dress, groomsmen attire. It as difficult to envision what the wedding would ultimately
end up looking like without fully understanding what the options were. Thankfully, my planner was amazing
and everything came out wonderfully.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
Honestly, everything! I was just completely blown away with the details that went into each event
starting with our rehearsal/welcome party, the cocktail hour, and the wedding. Fernanda (our wedding
coordinator) has fantastic taste, and everything came together beautifully. It rained everyday while we
were there so we had to go with plan B for our ceremony and reception and moved it all inside. I was
so distraught over it on the day of the wedding, but it was all amazing. You couldn’t even tell that our
reception was being held inside of a Mexican restaurant!
How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?
AMAZING. Poor Fernanda, I was so stubborn when it came to the idea of moving the wedding inside.
She did not miss a beat on any of the plans that we had made. She even found sparklers for us last
minute on the day of! The details, I feel like the pictures don’t even do them justice. She was always
available and had great communication. I can’t rave about her enough.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
DO IT! Don’t listen to anyone. The people that want to be there will be there. Get a travel agent
aka Hannah because she will make your life so easy and also those of your guests. Those 4
days surrounded by loved ones on the beach have been no doubt, the best days of our lives
and we wouldn’t do a thing differently.

Was there anything that you would change looking back?
NO! Honestly, even the dates because of the rain. We got amazing pictures and everything
worked out how it was supposed to.

Shana’s Feedback: I could not have prayed for a more wonderful day for the both of us! The weather was perfect and pretty much everyone we wanted to be there was able to make it! Our wedding coordinator, Delia, did an amazing job! She was on top of everything and even put in some extra special details to make each part of the wedding stand out. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. I even pulled a few staff members onto the dance floor! The food for our reception was AMAZING!  I absolutely loved the way the resort was laid out!It was a perfect venue for a wedding.

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

We actually both envisioned ourselves having a destination wedding.  We had each been to a couple of them and loved the idea of spending multiple days with family and friends.  Another big factor was how much easier and less stressful it would be to plan a destination wedding!

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

We narrowed our location down to the Cancun/Riviera Maya area due to the number of beautiful resorts, the amazing look of the beaches there, and the cost of travel for our guests!   We did a little bit of research before contacting a travel agent, and fell in love with the layout and look of the rooms at Dreams Riviera Cancun.  I searched for the top rated destination wedding travel agencies in DFW, and Legacy Travel came up during my search.  I contacted them, and Hannah Cote was so quick to respond!   After giving her our list of wants/needs she sent back a list of resorts that met our requests with great prices for our guests.  Dreams Riviera Cancun was one of those resorts!  It was a great price point for what you get (beautiful rooms, nice resort layout, plenty of restaurants, many activities)!  The icing on the cake was that Dreams Riviera Cancun are known for their weddings.  They do an amazing job!  More than anything, we wanted this to be a vacation for our guests with a cool wedding on top of it!

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

I didn’t feel like planning a destination wedding was very difficult for us.  I was a very laid back bride so I didn’t need to ask our wedding coordinator a lot of questions during the planning phase.  The thing I realized about planning a Destination Wedding, is that you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want.  One thing that might be difficult would be waiting for the wedding coordinator to contact you regarding the wedding details.  Depending on the resort, some of the wedding coordinators typically don’t reach out to you until about 3 months before the wedding.  They are so busy planning other weddings, but when your time comes, their focus is on you!  I actually liked that they waited so long to contact us.  I can’t even tell you how many times I changed my mind about what I wanted.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?

Our wedding day!  Both our ceremony and reception were beautiful and more than I dreamed of!  We had our reception in the ballroom and it had a WOW factor!  Our flower arrangements were large and beautiful, the lighting was amazing, and everything was put together so well!

How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?

Dreams Riviera Cancun is a well-oiled machine!  They know exactly what they are doing when it comes to hosting weddings.  Our wedding coordinator, Natalia, took care of everything for us!  Natalia, the wedding department, and the service team were amazing.  The DJ, the food, really everything was fantastic!  They also have so many options to choose from when it comes to planning your wedding.  We chose to add a cigar roller and that was a hit!

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

A destination wedding is the way to go!!!  Definitely get a travel agent to handle all of your guests travel arrangements!  I would highly recommend Hannah with Legacy Travel!  She was amazing and answered every question we had.  Having a travel agent handle our guests travel arrangements was one less thing for us to worry about.  Plus they sent these awesome fliers out with the resort information so that our guests had Legacy Travel’s info when they were ready to book.  Our guests had nothing but great things to say about Hannah and how easy it was for them to book.  Another piece of advice would be to research weddings at different resorts they are thinking about.  I think the reason I did not stress about how our wedding would turn out, was because I saw so many pictures and read many reviews of different weddings at Dreams Riviera Cancun.  I knew they would make my wedding vision a reality.

Was there anything that you would change looking back?

I don’t think there is anything we would change!  Our guests still rave about how much they loved the resort and the entertainment team there.  They even talk about how beautiful our wedding was!

  • What made you decide on having a destination wedding?

I always wanted to have my wedding on the beach, and one year my husband and I traveled to Mexico and loved every second of it. We both always talked about what we wanted for our wedding and it was to have it at an all inclusive in Mexico on the beach! Also, I felt like having our closest friends and family to take a week long vacation together is once in a life time. To have this memory with everyone of my loved ones was one of the reasons I wanted to have a destination wedding.

  •  What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?

We knew we wanted to have it in Mexico, we are from Chicago and they have many direct flights to Cancun which made it very easy to travel for our guests. Working with Lesley she was AMAZING! She helped me choose dreams riviera Maya Cancun. I gave her all my wants in a resort beautiful beach and pool, must have good food, family friendly resort because we had kids coming and a hotel not to far from Cancun airport. She help me narrow down all my options and gave me all the time I needed to make that big decision. She answered any questions I had about the resorts and made it so easy every step of the way.

  • What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?

There was not one difficult thing in planning our destination wedding. I worked with Lesley the entire time from start to finish, she was nothing but helpful and made the entire experience stress free and amazing! I highly recommend having a destination wedding. Ours was amazing and I loved every single second of it.

  • What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?

The entire experience was amazing. My biggest surprise was Lesley upgraded us to VIP guests and to an ocean view room it was amazing!!! She wanted to make sure that we were taken care of and she sure did! I felt like Lesley wasn’t just my travel agent for my wedding we became very close friends  during my experience planning with legacy travel. I sometimes spoke to her a few times a week. I would even call just to say hi!  My wedding day was the highlight of everything. I remember sitting down at my reception and I told my husband just take a minute look around how beautiful everything is.

Also, Lesley works in Texas and I live in Chicago. Legacy travel has a Chicago office and she came to work a few days out of the Chicago office and she wanted to meet me! I was so excited! We went out for dinner and she surprised me and gave me a wedding survival gift! I was so surprised she wanted to pick me as one of her brides to take out to dinner, I was shocked she picked me!!! I will always remember everything she has done to plan the most special time in our lives.

Our family and friends loved every minute of it and now they want to plan family vacations every year. I know I will be calling Lesley to book our big family trips!

  • How well was the resort and your onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?

She was amazing she greeted me as I checked into the resort. We had a meeting with her the next day and I was able to change center pieces, linens, and many more things. She went through every single detail of the wedding. It was seamless she had everything taken care of. We had not one worry in the world. I was able to meet with my photographer and DJ. We requested to meet with them just to make sure everything went perfect with them. Which the wedding coordinator photographer and dj all are in contact with each other so everyone is on the same page.

  • If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?

Enjoy every second of it. I know I did I loved every minute planning my destination wedding. I did not have one worry in the world during the entire planning processes. I wanted to do it again!

  • Was there anything that you would change looking back?

I wouldn’t have stressed about the welcome bags. Your guests come prepared bringing sunscreen, aloe, Advil etc. So I felt that I could have just done a nice simple letter thanking them to travel and an itinerary, and not worry about stuffing a bag full of travel stuff that all your guests are already bringing with them.

Thomas & Jessica’s Dream Wedding

My husband and I got married at Dreams Riviera Maya in Cancun, Mexico on January 8th, 2016. My only regret was not staying longer. The resort was a 12 out of 10. From the very beginning we were greeted by friendly faces and amazing customer service. Our room and view were to die for. The food at the restaurants was amazing and honestly I was not expecting it to be that good given it is an all-inclusive.

I got a trial done for my hair and makeup and the lady at the spa did an amazing job. I looked like a queen. I did not use any of the spa services but my guests did and they had nothing but positive things to say. Several went back for multiple massages.

Our wedding coordinator, Claudia, was the very best. We sat down with her for about an hour when we got there to go over last minute details. She took our party favors from us and took care of the rest. We had a large bridal party (12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen) and she was definitely ready for all the logistics that entailed.

We opted for the semi-private rehearsal dinner and it was great! El Patio, did an amazing job making that night special. The day of the wedding was just perfect, blue skies, mimosa breakfast with my bridesmaids and a wonderful day getting ready at the spa. 11 out of my 12 bridesmaids had spa services done (hair/makeup) for the wedding and all loved how they turned out.

The ceremony and reception was more than I could ever imagine (and you know I was stressing about this for 12 month when we put the deposit down). It was a little stressful at first being told we had to work with the resorts vendors for our DJ and photography but they were 5 –stars. The DJ had a great set up and played all the songs we requested. He even had the music videos playing in the background. Our photographer, Karlien,  was brilliant. She was climbing trees and getting great shots of my husband and I and our entire wedding party.

We had 53 guest in total and they all had a great time. The resort is small and cozy. I really liked this since I didn’t have to walk ten minutes to get to a friend’s room. The pool and beach are clean and perfect. There were times the seaweed would build up on the beach but they were constantly cleaning it.
