What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
I have always loved the ocean and the beach. My dream wedding has always been to stand on the sand with my love and pledge our life to each other.

IMG_0633_a

What made you decide on the destination, venue?
I have been to Mexico several times, and the beaches are beautiful, and the people at the resorts are so nice. I decided on Secrets Silversands because I wanted to be surrounded by luxury settings, and to have my guest that traveled with us be well taken care of. The package price for our wedding as well as the price that my guest paid was a very good value for the wonderful luxurious hotel we stayed at.

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
The biggest difficulty in planning our wedding was getting the exact time I wanted the service to start. I wanted a sunset wedding, but the officiant was not available at that time.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The highlight was being in such a beautiful place, my wedding party was treated like VIP guest, and the biggest surprise was the hotel threw in a honeymoon suite. It was absolutely stunning!

How well was the resort and your Wedding Coordinator to work with?
They were wonderful! They were there to meet me as soon as I arrived at the resort, we went over all the final details, and I didn’t have to worry about another thing. I really enjoyed how our wedding coordinator was always in the shadows just in case I needed something, but I never felt like she was intruding on our event.

What is your advice to future brides?
My advice is to use the free Honeymoon Registry! They give you access to a free website to post about your upcoming wedding to keep your guest informed and the Honeymoon Registry gave our friends and family that were not going to be able to attend the option to give us a gift. My husband and I used the money towards our expenses and excursions, what we didn’t use was transferred into our bank accounts.

Alissa and Joshua elope at Sandals La Toc!

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
My husband and I both decided on a destination wedding because we wanted to avoid the stress that comes with planning a large ceremony. Even as a young girl, I knew I wanted to get married on a beautiful beach with crystal blue waters, and that is exactly what we had. It was stress free and a dream come true!
What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
Our number one requirement was that we wanted an adults only resort. Don’t get me wrong, we love kids; however, this was our wedding/honeymoon, and we wanted to relax as much as possible. Sandals did just that! Because it was a couples resort, the staff catered to making everything romantic and personable without being cheesy. It was the perfect place for us.
What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
Honestly, there was absolutely NO difficulty! I loved when people at work would ask me how the wedding planning was going, and I could just tell them that it was finished. All I had to do was pick out a few colors, taste some cake, and decide on the beach or a gazebo. I have been a bridesmaid plenty of times to know that the bride usually freaks out over something before the big day, and I didn’t have to worry about anything. If I absolutely had to pick something that was difficult, I would just say that my dress was heavy carrying it through customs…but even then, my husband helped me out.
What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The highlight, for me, was the perfect weather! The sun was shining, and the waves were crashing behind us! This made for great pictures. My husband and I also wrote a little something to each other for the ceremony, and I will always cherish that.
The greatest surprise were our wedding guests. To avoid drama and stress, my husband and I eloped without our family or friends. I knew, though, that getting ready might be emotional for me, but I was able to FaceTime with my mom the whole time, and my wedding planner carried her around everywhere I went the morning of. We ended up having guests too! There were three couples that we had met that week, and they came to our wedding! It was so much fun, but also, my husband and I were able to just enjoy each other without the worries of appeasing other people. If we would have had a wedding at home, he and I both would have been constantly making sure everyone was happy instead of taking in our big day.
How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?
Excellent! Sandals specializes in weddings and honeymoons, so they definitely knew what they were doing!
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Go alone! Elope just the two of you, and then come home for a celebration. It is your day, it is about the two of you. Elope to avoid unnecessary stressors; plus the money you save from not having a wedding at home, you can use to upgrade or stay longer on your honeymoon.
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
Not a thing! I am still giddy just thinking of how special our wedding day was and how intimate it felt for the two of us. It was the smartest thing we have ever done!

“Our Wedding was amazing. It was so much fun and everything went well. The wedding coordinator was great and the resort staff were all very friendly. The food was very very good. Destination Wedding is the way to go. The wedding location was perfect couldn’t ask for anything more. I went all the way and trusted the resort photographer and the spa for my hair and make-up and it all worked out well. Very happy with the outcome.” – Dedra

What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
After looking at over 75 different venues, the cost was the main reason we choose a Destination Wedding. You get so much more for your money. Since we love Jamaica we decided to choose a location that wasn’t too far of a plane ride for family and friends.
What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
My biggest surprise is nothing went wrong. The highlight of the experience was the weather turnout. It was suppose to rain but it turned out sunny and beautiful throughout the whole ceremony.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Go for it, you won’t regret it. The hardest part of a Destination Wedding is that you aren’t able to see the flowers, venue, and don’t know what to expect. We were also nervous about how our family would react. It was very easy for family and friends to book their trip with Legacy Travel help and that saved us a lot of phone calls and text messages. They couldn’t stop commenting about how much fun they had and how they were so thankful we choose a Destination Wedding.
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
Absolutely nothing.

Sinu and Jon’s wedding at the Riu Montego Bay

Bride: Sinu
Groom: Jon
Resort: Riu Montego Bay
Travel Consultant:  Hannah

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
I come from a big family that is spread out across the USA.  We wanted to have something small and intimate, and I always imagined myself getting married barefoot, on a beach. Montego Bay, Jamaica was perfect!
What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
I was looking for an all-inclusive resort that was family friendly.  I also wanted a resort that did not have a minimum night requirement, because some guests could only do two nights. The RIU Montego Bay fit the requirements perfectly! 🙂
What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
The biggest difficulty for me was to be so far away, and not get to see exactly what was offered with my own eyes.  I relied on pictures from the florist, photographer, and the wedding coordinators.  Also, another thing that was difficult was deciding what things to bring with me for the wedding. (Welcome bags, favors, wedding party gifts).  Everything had to be brought with me, in check in bags and carry-on bags.

What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
The highlight of the experience was the wedding itself.  Having 30 of our closest family and friends there to celebrate our love and new life together was amazing.  The setting, on the beach, was gorgeous and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect location.  I am so glad we decided to have the Steel Drum Band play during the dinner! It was authentic and wonderful, and a special “extra”.
How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?
The resort was phenomenal.  The service we got from the front desk, housekeeping, servers, bartenders, shopkeepers, and spa personnel  had us feeling like celebrities! Wonderful service! 🙂 The wedding coordinators, Nekeisha and Christina were such a joy to work with. Through many emails back and forth, they made sure that my wedding was everything I hoped it would be.  They are very good at their jobs, and made my special day happen.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
I would tell her to use Legacy Travel, and ask for Hannah because she was wonderful at arranging my trip and answering all of my questions, and my guests’ questions.  I would also tell her that destination weddings are wonderful because ours was a mini vacation, family reunion, and honeymoon in one!
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
I would make sure that they had the song I wanted for my first dance.  I would bring it myself.  I would also bring false eyelashes! (The salon did not carry false eyelashes). Everything else was wonderful.  Two small glitches in an otherwise perfect day! 😉
Thanks for letting me help with your special day! It was such a pleasure working with you 🙂 -Hannah
