“Thanks again for everything…the wedding was absolutely amazing!”
What made you decide on a destination wedding?
We wanted a wedding we could enjoy with our close friends and family that would not break the bank, since we were going to be paying for it ourselves, and we really wanted a beautiful setting. Once we started pricing how expensive weddings could be in Dallas, TX, we decided that Mexico looked pretty good!
What made you decide your resort?
I had never been to Riviera Maya or to an all-inclusive resort, so it was all a little overwhelming looking online at first. Once we decided to get some help from Legacy Travel, I totally trusted Nicki’s opinion on all the resorts she had been too. She was able to tell me the positives of each resort and helped us pick a family friendly resort that worked best for our guests, since we would be having a few young adults with us. It seemed that with her expertise, Azul Sensatori was the resort that would meet ALL of needs the best, and she was right!
What was the biggest difficulty planning a destination wedding?
Of course the biggest difficulty is not being able to actually see the resort in person. It is hard to plan your big day when you are only able to go by pictures online, but I would say what we saw was very accurate. If you have a vision of how you want your day to go, then I promise it can happen and the resorts are happy to help with any special things you want or need.
What was the highlight of the experience?
The best part of my destination wedding was how wonderful the actual wedding day went for me and Matt.  It was really nice to wake-up and have breakfast with my best friend, then get to walk on the beach, and spend a few hours with my close friends and family at the pool in the sunshine before the wedding even started. When it came to getting ready, it went so smoothly. I had a mani, pedi, make-up and hair done all at the resort spa. The staff did an amazing job and I could have never dreamed how beautiful they made us all look. The weather was perfect, the ceremony was absolutely beautiful, the pictures were stunning, and ALL of our guests had the most fun night. You can’t ask for anything more when you plan a wedding!
How well was the resort and online wedding coordinator to work with?
It was so nice to be able to call someone state-side with all of your wedding questions, instead of having to call Mexico every time you had a question. Whether you are having a small or large wedding, you will have questions, and the state-side planners are so helpful and cooperative. Once we arrived at Azul Sensatori, the onsight staff was great. We met with them two days before the wedding, and everything turned out just as we wanted. It really was perfect!
If your best friend was planning a destination wedding what would your advise be?
The most helpful thing for me planning a destination wedding was to talk to all of my friends and co-workers that had also planned a destination wedding. Everyone had some bit of helpful advise to pass along from their experience and helped to make the process much easier. I learned so much from others who had planned destination weddings, and from Nicki who had physically been to the resort, that I really had a wonderful feeling going into it all.
Was there anything you would change looking back?
I really can’t believe I am saying this, but…NO! It was all wonderful! I highly recommend Azul Sensatori and Caribe Photography. Our pictures turned out so beautiful and will be a reminder always of our special day. I am so happy we picked Riviera Maya, Azul Sensatori and Legacy Travel! I only wish I could get married all over again….

Wedding coordinator interview! ~ Azul Hotels ~

Amanda Patek – Wedding Planner for Azul Hotels based in the United States

Hello Amanda and thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us today!

So how long have you been helping plan dream weddings for the Azul Hotels?
Almost 2 years now.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Working with the different brides and helping them pick out their bouquet, menus, entertainment and everything that goes along with a perfect wedding. It’s really nice to work with all different types of brides and agents. I’m definitely a girly girl, so helping to plan each woman’s perfect wedding melts me every time!!

What are some of the most fun/memorable weddings you’ve helped plan?
One wedding that I planned recently were married at Azul Beach Hotel. The couple was so sweet and down to earth. They ended up sending me the wedding video after they returned home and it was probably the best video I’ve seen! I definitely wanted to be there because it looked beautiful and everyone looked like they had a blast.

How do you feel about wedding favors/gifts?
I think it’s a nice gesture when bride’s bring them, especially for a destination wedding. It’s saying an extra “thank you” for flying to Mexico and joining in on the wedding celebration. A lot of my bride’s have gotten really creative with a destination wedding gift bag.

Being in a tight economy right now, would you suggest an area to cut costs or downsize?
I would suggest cutting down on ceremony decorations because the ceremony is only 25 minutes in length and the scenery is already breathtaking anyways. I would put that money into a private reception with great food and dancing. Our wedding packages also include a semi private dinner for the wedding party, so this is perfect for wedding couples on a budget that still want a nice, sit-down dinner with their family and friends.

Is there anything new and exciting going on with Azul weddings?
There’s always something new and exciting going on! We always have great promotions like the Free Wedding Package or the Bride and Groom Stay Free Promotion. Nothing is impossible for us to do, so depending on how creative you want to get for a wedding, we can accommodate it.

If you were to give some tips or advice to a soon to be bride, what would it be?
I would suggest that the bride visits the Azul properties… they really speak for themselves.  Each bride has different priorities, so I would suggest figuring out what yours are and go from there.  Some brides really want a low key wedding, others want something elaborate.  I always say to make a list of “must haves” and find the resort and wedding package that allows you to plan your perfect wedding. Everyone’s version of a perfect wedding is different and the Azul properties are really great at molding to each bride’s needs.
Again, thank you for all that you do and know that we simply adore you and the entire Azul Wedding Team.

Attention brides to be:  When calling to set up your consultation with a Wedding Consultant at Legacy Travel be sure and ask about the special gifts that you receive when wedding at one of the Azul Resorts.

~ Bride Interview ~

What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
We wanted a beach and Mexico was the most affordable. It helped us to cut down the cost of the wedding as well because we had a smaller wedding.

What made you decide on the resort/venue?
Advice of the travel agent, Terrah Rominger. I liked that they had adults only and kids sections as well as an English speaking wedding coordinator in the states.

Who was your photographer, and if you had one, your videographer?
Caribe photography. They were great and we enjoyed having both prints and photo albums to take home with us. I wish we would have done a video though.

What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
Not seeing the resort first. In retrospect I wish we would have gone out there first to make sure it was right but it turned out wonderfully. It just made it more stressful not knowing for sure if it was going to be what we wanted until we got there.

What was the highlight of the experience?
Jumping in the pool in our clothes after the reception! I’ve had tons of comments it was the best wedding people had been to. Irais, the on site coordinator made it so effortless and took the worry out of everything the day of the wedding. We had 31 guests, so it was a nice intimate group with lots of great energy!

Biggest surprise?
That the wedding staff was so easy to work with, especially everyone at the resort. They had some great ideas about some things we should add when we got there and were able to make it as low stress as a wedding could be!

If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Look at lots of pictures and have an idea of what you want. If you’re not sure, ask. The wedding team does tons of these and has lots of great ideas. Make sure you pick a resort that does lots of weddings and comes recommended. Check for blogs, etc. Take into account that it may limit who attends or you may have to do some creative problem solving to get the people that are important to you down there.
