What made you decide on having a destination wedding?
Travis and I really wanted something special — and we are known for always taking the path less traveled. We are  both from very small towns and we wanted to be able to share the intimacy of a small private wedding with our close friends and family (and later celebrate with a large celebration reception, which we did!). The people that were able to be in Mexico we knew really wanted to be there, and were our close friends and family. We wanted the wonderful, close, special wedding – and thats exactly what we got. And a much needed vacation too!
What made you decide on the destination/resort/venue?
Our wonderful travel agent, Hannah, put together several choices for us to look through. We wanted to pick an option that was affordable for our friends and family that wanted to attend – while also maintaining terrific food, customer service, rooms, and beach. The Dreams Resort we chose in Tulum was a perfect fit. The service we received there was absolutely incredible. Every staff member was welcoming and we were treated wonderfully. The food we had was amazing, the drinks were terrific, and the rooms were just perfect. We spent plenty of time at the pool, and the beach, and the wedding coordinators were so organized and efficient.
What was the biggest difficulty in planning your destination wedding?
Honestly, I hate to say it, but I can’t think of a single thing. Our wedding coordinator sent everything to me in a spreadsheet or powerpoint. It looked exactly as described and Travis and I sat down, picked everything out, and it was picture perfect.
What was the highlight of the experience and what was the biggest surprise?
I think the ease and stress-free nature of a destination wedding was probably the highlight of the experience. The only thing I did the day of the wedding (pre-ceremony) was have breakfast with my bridesmaids before heading down to hair and make-up. The staff set up every detail (to perfection) and had the reception perfectly planned out.  It made the entire experience just so perfect.
The biggest surprise — We didn’t have a surprise in terms of anything difficult / bad springing up. Everything we experienced was just a pleasant surprise.
How well was the resort and your Onsite Wedding Coordinator to work with?
Anabelle, our wedding coordinator for that weekend, was terrific. The resort coordinator had sent me everything upon initial contact, so we had plenty of time to review everything and make our decisions. Anabelle just finalized all of our information, verified our choices, and coordinated everything the day of. She was also really wonderful in regards to our reception – our guests all had different main courses and she ensured everything was delivered timely and with no mistake. I can’t say enough good things about the experience.
If your best friend were planning a destination wedding what would your advice be to her?
Hire Hannah. Send me the details. And get on the plane. 🙂
Honestly, I’ve been in, as a bridesmaid or house party, fifteen weddings (yes, 15…) and our wedding was the least stressful. I did not have to tie ribbons, cover chair backs, or do a thing. And it was still perfection.
Was there anything that you would change looking back?
I think we might have stayed an extra day given the option 🙂
Thank you Travis and Jennifer for letting me help with your wonderful wedding! It was a blast working with you 🙂 – Hannah Cote
